Sophie the Cat

Sophie the cat lives in a quiet and cozy neighborhood. She dresses herself in a black tuxedo and is known for her little pink nose. She is always well behaved and very independent, preferring to play outside in the real world rather than with cat toys, and refuses to use a litterbox. She also enjoys sleeping  on a soft blanket and scratched on the neck.

But unlike other cats, she disappears at night. 

So where does Sophie go and what does she do? I guess we will have to find out by going on an adventure with her!

My friends and cat lovers have been telling me to write a children’s book about LWS’ adventures for quite some time now, so here’s my go at it.

Welcoming LSS home

After much anticipation and preparation, we have finally taken LSS home. It was a very bumpy ride due to the left over of our previous snow storm, so she was very uncomfortable and unhappy in her carrying cage (aka pet taxi), and meowing all the way back. Once she was home, she started purring right away and ran everywhere to explore the house. One thing that intrigued her the most is our full length mirror, as she kept on looking into it over and over again; I think she’s very happy with how cute she looks!

The cat house was a great hit, especially the mouse dangling on top. She also loves to walk all over us to kiss and lick. Her original name at the SPCA was Hemi, named after the hemi engine because she sure purrs like one! We let her in our bedroom to sleep but she kept on purring all night long with very few breaks! I think she’s very excited to be in a home full of love and attention, and hopefully she’ll be more herself once she’s adjusted to the new life here.

She slept on our belly and near the foot, finding our fingers and toes super amusing to chase after. She’s very active and playful, and really gives out a lot of happiness and appreciation for the simplest things. I was also very proud of her this morning when she successfully used the enclosed litter box for the first time without even teaching! As I always say, tuxedo cats are 200% smarter than any other cat : )

So what is she doing now? Just finished bathing herself and sleeping quietly beside me on the blue blankie. Yes she’s in love with that as well, and peace for me, finally!

p.s. A little background on LSS. She is 2 years old now, and was found in an abandoned home at the end of October this year. She still had milk when she arrived at the SPCA so she must have just had kittens. However, they were unable to find her kittens anywhere, so they only took her in. I hope she will enjoy her life with us and grow into the beautiful cat she is.

My life with LWS

小瓜子第一次出现是在2010年的6月12号。那天我请了一群朋友来我家做客，大家正吃着晚饭看着电视，突然发现有一只小猫躲在我餐桌下面。我家住一楼，那天天气很好所以玻璃门是开着的，估计她趁我们不注意溜进来的吧。那是我第一次见到她，她很瘦也很胆小，发现我们盯着她看的时候显得很害怕。我的一个朋友对猫过敏，所以我只好一把抱起她，把她放到了门外。她在惊恐中狠狠得抓了我一下，在胳膊上留下了一条深深的印子，也算是不打不相识吧。

LWS first came into my life on June 12th, 2010. I had a whole bunch of friends over for a UFC party, and as we were watching, we suddenly realized there was this tiny cat underneath our dinning table! I live on the ground floor with big open window door, and she must have slipped in while we weren’t looking. That was the first time I’ve ever seen her. She was very skinny and looked very scared of us. My friends were allergic to cats, so I picked her up, and send her off to the outside. She was so afraid that she scratched my arm with all her might, leaving 2 deep marks.

之后小瓜子就消失了很长一段时间，到了七月底才又一次钻进我家里来。那天我在前门看到她蹲在那里，就给她拍了一张照片，回到家里后就发现她在我的小花园里了。我打开窗门，她迅速得把小脑袋伸了进来。那时候她脸很瘦，是个倒三角，不过我还是非常喜欢她，因为我一直想要一只黑白猫，像Shu的那只一样的猫咪。她很嗲，到处蹭来蹭去，喵喵直叫。家里没有猫粮，我倒了一碗水给她，然后从冰箱里找出一些ham喂给她吃。她很潮，腿长得像是穿着legging一样，小爪子粉可爱。

She disappeared for a while after that until the end of July. I saw her sitting by the front entrance of the apartment, so I took some pictures of her. After I got into my place, I found her waiting for me by my screen door (what a smart cookie!). I opened the door, and she poked her head in right away. Her face was very skinny then, like an upside down triangle. I fell in love with her right away, because I have always wanted a tuxedo cat, the one like Shu had. She was very cute, and walked around meowing. I didn’t have cat food, so I poured her a bowl of water, and gave her slices of ham. She is very fashionable, like wearing black tights with white little paw socks, super cute!

从那以后小瓜子就一直每天定时在8点左右跑来我家蹭饭。我也慢慢开始爱上了她。我也买来了大袋的猫粮还有零嘴给她。她很爱Temptations，每次都绕着我转要我给她。后来我发现她吃上瘾了，而且越吃越肥！为了她的健康着想，我就除了节假日都不给她吃了，嘿嘿。

From then on she has been coming to my place everyday at around 8pm. I am totally in love with her. I bought bags of dried cat food and temptations for her. She loves the Temptations, and spins around me to get more. Shaking the bag really works, she hops over right away! Anyways I had to stop feeding her Temptations because she was actually getting fat! So I decided to only feed her during holidays and special occasions : )

她名字的来源是Shu给的。Shu家的瓜子猫因病不幸离开了我们，因为她们长得很像，所以Shu就说叫她小瓜子吧。瓜子离开我们的时候，正是小瓜子来我家的时候。因为都是流浪猫，而且很有缘分，所以算是瓜子离开Shu跑到我这里来了吧。Shu叮嘱我一定要好好照顾小瓜子。

Her name (LWS) stands for Little Watermelon Seed, and it’s given by Shu, my best friend in China. Shu had a cat named Watermelon Seed that looks just like her. Coincidentally LWS came into my life just as WS sadly passed away, and they were all stray cats, so Shu said why not call her Little Watermelon Seed. We felt as if WS left China and came to me here in Vancouver. Shu was able to feel better and let WS go, and told me to take good care of LWS.

关于那个项圈，我好不容易用好吃的引诱她给戴上了，结果第二天来就不见了。估计是爬树抓小鸟就给她自己蹭掉了。哎，我好桑心啊！以后不给她买了。嗯，我希望以后可以把她一起带走 : )

About that collar, I finally fed her enough Temptations to get it on her neck, but it was gone the next day! I guess she snapped it off when she was climbing trees and fetching birds. I hope I can take her away to Nova Scotia with me  : )
